Dorothy Harriet Camille Arnold
Missing since December 12, 1910 from New York City, New York .
Age  25 years old  5'4"; 160 lbs White female.

  • Dark brown hair; gray/blue eyes. Pompadour hairstyle.
  • A tailor-made blue serge coat suit, hip-length, cut in at waist, skirt cut straight. A black velvet hat lined in pale Alice blue and decorated with two blue roses, a jabot of white lace. Low black shoes, silk stockings. Tan gloves. A gold ring ( two gold bands twisted together) and drop earrings of Lapis Lazuli, blue and plainly set. Imitation tortoise comb in hair, and a fancy barrette, dark brown and deeply carved. One long, very dark blue hatcomb, of Lapis Lazuli, Carried large black fox muff, fur tipped with white points. Carried also black cloth handbag containing between 20-30 dollars, and some personal cards.

Dorothy Arnold was last seen on Fifth Avenue and 27th Street.
On the morning of December 12, 1910, Dorothy left her parent’s home at 108 East Seventy-ninth Street in Manhattan to go shopping for an evening dress. She had a bank account of her own, as well as accounts at several of the stores.
She left the house at 11.30, and several acquaintances stopped and spoke with her as she walked west along Fifth Avenue, and others saw her going toward a bookstore on 27th Street, where she bought a book between 13.30-14.00. They all said that she seemed cheerful.
When she failed to return to 79th Street for dinner that night, her family telephoned friends but she had not been seen by any of them.
The family decided to keep Dorothy's disappearance a secret, conducting discreet investigations through a friend of the family and with the Pinkerton Detective Agency. Her parents spent thousands of dollars with the Pinkerton’s but they had no more success than John S. Keith, the family friend did. Keith was the attorney for the family and he had often escorted Dorothy to social functions. For weeks, he searched hospitals, morgues and jails in New York, Boston and Philadelphia.
The secret investigations continued for six weeks, before the Arnold’s finally turned to the police and the newspapers.
Ms. Arnold had been abroad often, but had no relatives or close friends in Europe. She was a Byrn Mawr graduate, the daughter of a perfumery importer, and the niece of the late Justice Rufus W. Peckham of the United States Supreme Court. She was devoted to books and spoke several languages. Source Information:

Date Of Birth: 1908

  • Age: 22 years old
  •  White female.

Ritz worked as a showgirl in the New York City area in 1930. Her disappearance may be linked with the disappearance of Joseph Crater.

Ritz met Crater and another friend at Billy Has' Chophouse on West 45th Street during the evening hours of August 6, 1930. Crater departed from the restaurant later that night and disappeared.

Juliet Stuart Poyntz
Missing since June, 1937 from New York City, New York

  • Date Of Birth: November 26, 1886
  • Age  50 years old
  • Other: dentals, DNA or physical descriptors not available

In June 1937, Poyntz took a phone call at her hotel from a former lover. She put on her hat and coat and walked out into the night. In her room, her clothes were neatly folded, her passport was in her drawer, and a candle was burning. She was never seen again. One of her friends, the anarchist Carlo Tresca, investigated her disappearance and concluded that an old lover had lured her out to be kidnapped and killed.

Juliet Stuart Poyntz was one of the founding members of the American Communist Party. A graduate of Barnard College and Columbia University, she traveled all over the world promoting Communism, until she dropped out of the American Communist Party in 1934 in order to work as an agent for the OGPU, the secret police agency of the Soviet Union and predecessor of the KGB.

She received intensive training in espionage and returned to the United States. In 1936, she was recalled to Moscow for debriefing and to receive further instructions. But while she was there, she became disillusioned. She had been interrogated and her loyalty questioned.
She had barely managed to allay suspicion before returning to the United States. Badly shaken, she quit her espionage work and openly denounced Communism. She told people she was thinking about writing her memoirs. She was last seen around June 4 or 5, 1937.

In Early December 1937, her lawyer reported her missing to the New York City Police Department. In her apartment at the American Women's Association Clubhouse at 353 West 57th Street, she left behind all of her belongings and her passport. She also left behind a bank account containing $10,500 which had not been touched since she was last seen. She was declared legally dead on October 26, 1944.

Because there are no dentals, DNA or physical descriptors available for Ms. Poyntz, there is no way to compare this person to an unidentified victim.

    Brenda Cecelia Crowley
Missing since March 1979 from Staten Island, Richmond County, New York.
    Classification: Endangered Missing

    • Date Of Birth: October 5, 1963
    • Age at Time of Disappearance: 16 years old
    • Height and Weight at Time of Disappearance: 5'4"- 5'6" (163-168 cm); 110 - 130 lbs. (50-59 kg)
    • Distinguishing Characteristics: White female. Dark blonde, straight hair; blue/green eyes that sometimes appears hazel. Brenda may wear glasses/contacts due to a slight cross in her left eye.

Crowley lived with her mother in Staten Island, NY in 1979. The daughter of a mother who gave birth to eight children from three different men, Brenda had already disappeared from Curtis High School, which in February 1980 expelled her as AWOL, when she went missing. There was also an outstanding "PINS" (person in need of supervision) warrant issued for Brenda's arrest in Family Court. Her mother did not file a missing person's report with the police. On March 8, 1981, nearly a year after her daughter disappeared, Theresa Crawley was found strangled to death at a Castleton Corners intersection. The 40-year-old Stapleton woman was initially listed as an unidentified Jane Doe, until a Castleton Corners man whom Ms. Crawley knew from a bar pleaded guilty to attempted manslaughter and was sentenced to prison.
Crowley may have been placed in foster care. She has not been seen or heard from since March 1979.

Brenda lived with her mother and siblings in Staten Island, NY. According to the family, she and her seven siblings had run away from the family's various Staten Island addresses at one time or another, but everyone usually came back, everyone except Brenda Crowley. Brenda used to hang out in the Tompkinsville area as well as Stapleton, and Mariner’s Harbor. She has not been seen or heard from since about 1979. (Date of last contact is only an estimation) The family thought that her mother had filed a missing person's report with the police, but later learned that was not the case, so a report was filed with the New York Police Department's Missing Persons Squad in Manhattan in 2007.   nvestigators

    Unidentified White Female

    • Located November 9, 1979 in Caledonia, Livingston County, New York.
    • Estimated Date of Death is November 8, 1979
    • Died as a result of severe brain hemorrhage caused by a gunshot wound to the head.

Estimated age: 13 - 19 years old. Her estimated date of birth is 1958-1967.

    • Approximate Height and Weight: 5'3; 120 lbs.
    • Distinguishing Characteristics: She had curly brown, shoulder length hair which had been frosted about four months before her death. The frosted hair was in the process of growing out. She had brown eyes. She was tanned and had visible bikini lines. She had no distinguishing marks. The victim had had no broken bones that would have been in a hospital's records. It didn't look as though she had received much medical attention of any kind.
    • Clothing: She was wearing a a boy's multi-plaid, button-down shirt, tan corduroy pants, blue knee socks, light blue panties; white exquisite bra; brown lace up, ripple-sole shoes and a red nylon-lined man's windbreaker with black stripes down the arms, marked with the inside label Auto Sports Products, Inc..
    • Dentals: Available. She has some serious decay and tooth #14 was decayed to the extent that only three roots of the tooth were left. She had not had any dental care.
    • Fingerprints: Available. Her fingerprints were sent to FBI headquarters, but her prints weren't on file.
    • DNA: Available in CODIS

Discovered by a passing motorist at 10.00 in a Caledonia, NY cornfield on November 9, 1979. She was found about 20 feet from the south side of Route 20, about one half mile from the intersection of Route 5.

She was fully clothed and there was no evidence that she had been sexually molested. Her pockets had been turned inside out, possibly to remove any identification.
An examination of the girl's stomach contents turned up pieces of meat, corn and potatoes. A waitress from a small dinner in Lima, New York, remembered seeing the girl the night before the murder, but she couldn't remember anything more.

She died of two gunshot wounds; one to the back and one to the front of her head. The coroner estimated that she was killed the previous night, (November 8), the gunshot wound to her head was inflicted prior to the back wound. The victim was apparently shot by the road where a blood spot marked the earth. Then she was dragged into the cornfield and shot again.

Police speculated that the murder weapon used was a .38-caliber handgun. Ballistics experts dug up a slug buried in the dirt underneath the victim. The slug was tested against literally hundreds of other bullets fired from guns seized by police. Over the years, the Livingston County probes traced weapons to as far away as Canada, Europe, and Mexico, but they were never able to match the slug to a murder weapon.

Several truckers called in with information about a young girl who was traveling and catching rides where she could. One trucker swore he saw the girl the night before she was murdered trying to hitch a ride to Boston from a nearby truck stop.
Police have followed up over 10,000 leads, all to no avail.

Jane Doe rests in Dansville, New York. The inscription says, "Lest we forget an unidentified girl. November 9. 1979. And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest."

Pollen samples taken from the victim's clothing were determined to have come from only four places: Arizona, California, South Florida, or Mexico

    Angela Elaine Allen

    Angela Elaine Allen
Missing since December 26, 1979 from Syracuse, Onondaga County, New York
    Classification: Endangered Missing

Date of Birth: September 1, 1951

    Age  28 years old

    5'5"; 135 lbs.

    Black female.

Black hair; brown eyes. Pierced ears.

Purple dress, red shoes, gray coat, and red clutch purse

    Dentals: Available

Allen was reported missing two days after Christmas in 1979. Her mother was the last person known to have talked with Allen, on December 26.
Angela lived with her husband and two children in an apartment on South Salina Street. The day after Christmas, according to the statement made to police by her husband, Angela Allen left the apartment to go shopping. She never returned. A missing persons report wasn't filed until the noon hour of December 28. It was filed by Angela's mother, who, by that time, was very concerned about her daughter.
At the time, Allen was married to Hubert J. Allen, a man charged six years later in connection with the murders of a former girlfriend and their 6-year-old son. Allen was planning to leave her husband.
The girlfriend gave Syracuse police information several years after Allen's disappearance that implicated Hubert Allen in the death of his wife.
Police suspect Allen buried his wife's body either on the Onondaga Indian Nation, the Allied Chemical salt pits or in the northern part of the county, because those were areas they used to go to for dates.
Allen worked as an assistant manager and buyer at JC Penney's in Shoppingtown. Friends and fellow workers interviewed by police described the missing woman as friendly and dependable. She was devoted to her children.

Lewis S. Lent Jr. was charged with Wood's abduction and murder in 1996, three years after she was last seen. Lent initially confessed to Sarah's abduction and claimed he buried her body in the Adirondacks. He drew a map of the burial location for authorities, but extensive searches did not produce any evidence as to Sarah's whereabouts. Lent later recanted his statements, but was convicted of the crime nonetheless.

Sarah's family founded The Sara Anne Wood Rescue Center, later renamed The Mohawk Valley Branch Of The National Center For Missing and Exploited Children. Foul play is suspected in Sarah's case due to the circumstances involved in her disappearance.

  • Laimer began a three-day alcohol rehabilitation program at Mercy Community Hospital in Port Jervis, New York on February 26, 2001. Her boyfriend, Joe Puccio, says she returned to the converted barn apartment they shared with his four children on Pine Hill Road in Sugar Loaf, New York, packed her belongings into a dark sedan, and drove away with another person. She apparently did not tell him where she was going. Laimer left her brown 1984 Datsun behind when she disappeared. She has never been heard from again.

Puccio could not recall the date she vanished, but believed it was around March 1. Laimer called in sick at her place of employment, the Chester Forum Diner, on February 17, nine days before she entered the alcohol program. She told her employer she had broken her toe. He never heard from again again after that. She was a troubled woman prior to her disappearance, but she had always stayed in touch with her young son, who lives in Puerto Rico with his father. Laimer had left her husband for Puccio in 2000. Neighbors say she and Joe often had violent drunken quarrels. Her family reported her missing on April 3, 2001, over a month after she vanished. They had become worried after she did not call her son on his birthday, and tried and failed to reach her; her phone was turned off.

Laimer has six siblings, who all live between Brainerd, Minnesota and Sarasota, Florida. They believe she may have met with foul play, as it is uncharacteristic of her not to contact them for so long. Police have questioned Puccio and searched his house and boats several times, but he has not been charged in connection with Laimer's case, nor is he being called a suspect. Laimer is a 1977 graduate of Brainerd High School in Brainerd, Minnesota. Her case remains unsolved. Police are treating it as a missing persons' investigation, as there is no evidence of foul play.
